Meguiar's MotorEx 2011

With the 11th annual Meguiar's MotorEx now over, the industries pinnacle event delivered everything it promised and more to state its claim as the largest and most prestigious motoring enthusiast event in Australia.

Following from last year's 20-10 celebration where it was the 20th year anniversary of Meguiar's in Australia, and the 10th year anniversary of MotorEx, it was a big show that had everyone who attended left speechless. It was a tall ask to follow the 2010 event but as the Gods came to the rescue and provided clear weather over the weekend from the week of torrential rain, the spectators flocked in at record numbers to witness the greatest MotorEx ever! The weekend went off with a bang, headlined by the greatest selection of Custom, Performance and Collectible show cars in the country. It provided a fantastic and unique opportunity for everyone to be involved from motoring clubs and organisations, individual enthusiasts to motoring and performance specific businesses, and general commercial traders.

The show covered everything from Hot Rods, Street Machines, Custom Motorcycles and Hi-Tech Tuners to the finest examples of Muscle Cars, high performance speed machines, sports racing vehicles and timeless classics! Covering 250,000 square feet, with nearly 55 million dollars' worth of the best show cars in Australia with $55,500 in prize money up for grabs, Meguiar's MotorEx is automotive paradise and is the event to be involved in.

With the highest accolade on offer; the competition was fierce and proved a tough job for the judges with the Meguiar's Superstars "Best of Breed Master Hod Rod and Street Machine". Mick Fabar with his 33' Ford Coupe 'RAWR' won the Best Hot Rod, and Wayne and Diane McLaughlin with their 56' Ford F100 'Goldmine' won Best Street Machine.

The newest award on offer by Meguiar's and Car Crazy; 'Australia's Most Impressive Custom Car' was awarded to Adam LeBrese with his 1978 Ford XC Coupe. This award includes an all-expense paid trip for 2 to Las Vegas including the transport for the car to be on show and compete at SEMA at the 'International Showcase'. What a title and prize!

This year also had a huge international gathering with Pete Chapouris and Jimmy Shine from the So-Cal Speed Shop with the So-Cal Roadster that was built in the States and then assembled here in Australia. Famous custom builders and painters John D'Agostino, Gene Winfield and Charlie Hutton also made a guest appearance at MotorEx for the first time.

With the solid motoring market in attendance, this year's event was also very much a family spectacle; trade stands, a $2.2 Million dollar Koenigsegg hypercar, a Shannon's Auction whom achieved an industry record, plus a fundraiser for Camp Quality; it is fair to say MotorEx was a successful event for all.

The 12th annual Meguiar's MotorEx is now only around the corner and will be back again in July, 2012. For more information and the 2011 awards list visit www.motorex.com.au.
