So get this…

Welcome to issue 14 of FreeStyle Rides, brought to you by MotorActive. Being just as involved in performance stuff as were are shows, we’ve made FSR 14 the 2015 PERFORMANCE ISSUE and it’s a cracker! Taking centre stage is a massive feature on the 2015 Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12-Hour. As the event’s headline sponsor, you might think it’s only natural. However after checking out the in-depth piece, I’m sure you’ll be just as hooked on this rapidly developing event as the rest of us. It’s already become an international, must-do endurance event.

A huge coup for Australia’s battle of the car brands was this year’s TV coverage. Who would have thought we’d get over 12 continuous hours of racing on Australian free-to-air TV? When we started sponsoring the Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12-Hour three years ago, there was no TV; it was online streaming only. In 2014, SBS enjoyed considerable success broadcasting the last three hours in addition to the nine hours of Livestream. For 2015, Network 7 recognised the potential and committed to broadcasting the full 12 hours (live & free) along with a half-hour preamble. Not in my wildest dreams did I think that could ever happen. And didn’t people tune in, with the telecast’s cumulative viewing audience reaching a whopping 2.7 million. Wow!

We’re really happy MotorActive as a business continues to expand. Recently we added MotorMerch to our brand portfolio because we know from experience that all merchandise and apparel is not created equal. Now you can source desirable, custom-made merchandise from our wholesale arm. In addition, we’ve set up MotorActive USA Inc, with our first acquisition being the American manufacturing and distribution arm of Showwheels. The plan is to fast-track growth of our overall US business to become the same scale as our Australian operation within five years.

More changes are afoot with our product line-up. MotorActive has always marketed high-spec, premium products. Whilst we have no plans to change that, the mindset of the market is changing. Consumers now demand good products at great prices – not necessarily best in class. With our vinyl wrap program, we’ve responded by launching the affordable Designer Wraps ‘Standard’ program. We still offer pro-spec vinyl (renamed Designer Wraps Premium), however consumers now have the option of a lower-specification vinyl at fantastic pricing. It’s ideal for projects that don’t require all the properties of Premium-grade film. Later in 2015, we’re also adding Designer Wraps Spray. Colour-matched to the Designer Wraps Standard range of vinyls, it’s a film that can be sprayed on for even more flexibility and value.

2015 also marks the 25th anniversary of Meguiar’s Australia – the name we traded under until evolving into MotorActive in 2005 – and we’re having a big celebration at MotorEx Sydney, July 25-26. Look for coverage of this landmark event in FreeStyle Rides 15, published in September.
